What is the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist?
We often get asked this question. In the UK, podiatry is simply the new name for chiropody. The name changed to the internationally recognised name of podiatry in 1993. It is not just the name that has changed though. Podiatry is a constantly evolving profession. The extensive medical training given to students over the 3 or 4 year full time course and the continuing education after graduation enables Podiatrists to treat a vast array of foot and lower limb problems.
I think I have an ingrowing toenail, what should I do?
Act quickly and see one of our Podiatrists as soon as possible. We can treat the pain by cutting the offending nail and save the toe from becoming infected. If caught early enough we can prevent any further treatment being necessary. We also offer Nail Surgery if necessary.
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes, we work on an appointment system. Each appointment is 30 minutes long. Sometimes same day appointments are available so please call to check if we have any availability.
My GP referred me, does that mean my treatment is free?
AA Podiatry has been established in Clarkston and Shettleston for over 25 years. Many of the local GPs know the services we provide. It is not unusual for local GPs to refer patients to us however we are a private practice and there will be a charge for treatment. NHS Podiatry can occur a long waiting time for an appointment, this is why many podiatry patients choose to go privately
Can I claim my medical insurance?
Yes, if you’re insurance policy covers podiatry services. All of our Podiatrists are HCPC registered and are members of The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists.
Can I get my podiatrist to visit my home?
Yes, we offer home visits at a convenient time to suit patients who have reduced mobility or are unable to attend a clinical appointment.
I would like to be treated by the same podiatrist, can this happen?
Continuation of care and establishing confidence with our podiatrists is very important to us. This can be arranged with our receptionist or Podiatrist, just ask for who you would like to see.
Do you prescribe Orthotics?
Yes, we do. We have a team of Podiatrists who offer a range of specialised treatments. If you’re looking for insoles specifically please tell our receptionists when you are making your initial appointment.
I work and cannot come during the day. Can you treat me?
Most working patients come before or after work. We offer early morning and evening appointments in our Clarkston Surgery and Saturday appointments in Shettleston. Any treatment we carry out generally does not require a day off work but if it does require time off you would be advised in advance.

I hate showing my feet, what shall I do?
We have seen many pairs of feet over the years and yours won’t be the worst. We work in complete confidence.
How often do I need to come to a Podiatrist?
Depending on your feet and the problems you have it can vary. Some patients come every 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks and some once a year. It is advised to see a podiatrist once a year for routine care and foot health.
What if I forget about my appointment?
If you’re more than 10 minutes late for an appointment there is no guarantee that you will be seen as each appointment is 30 minutes long. Our receptionist will text or call you the day before to confirm your appointment. We have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy, if you do not cancel your appointment in the required time there will be a charge.
